DIY alloy wheel refurb Vide
PostSubject: DIY alloy wheel refurb DIY alloy wheel refurb EmptyFri Jun 11, 2010 7:14 pm

I bought these alloys to replace the really OE scabby items on the audi, StillAuto Sigmas, the wheels are generally in good condition apart from the rim lips which are pretty much marked all around.

This is the second worse wheel and the second one I've tackled, 2 more to go.

I started with a flapwheel in the angle grinder moving it in an arc working my way around the wheel.

Followed by an electric orbital sander with 120 grit paper.

Using the same paper but this time rubbed by hand with a rubber sanding block around the rim to remove the high spots.

Swapped to scotchbrite pad again with the rubber block.

Then the same pad lubed with Tcut / colour restored from poundland.

Followed by a quick wipe with Tcut on a cloth.

The same wheel as in pic one.

They're not perfect but 99% better and for less than a £5 for the four.

Tyres fitting next before a final polish and lacquering with a kids paintbrush.

The wheel is still dirty in the final pics, they all need a good clean, de-tarring and a waxing
