Got a quote today for work to have the belt (or as it happens "belts") changed on my Polo. There's no hard evidence that they've been changed even though it's been serviced since new by VW dealers... So it's just for my piece of mind!

I emailed a dude and this is what he said:

yours actually has two cam belts, the usual one at the front to drive the cam & water pump plus a smaller one at the gearbox end to drive the other cam. Anyway, total price would be £292.22. This would include a quality belt & tensioner kit (usually Gates or Continental) water pump, fresh anti freeze and labour.

Does £292.22 sound about right?

There is no belt that drives the other cam it's a chain and thats more than likely why the price is so high as you need to take the rocker cover off and them remove the cams to replace.

VW say it's a fit and forget part.

I still would like the other belt changing, if it snaps -- I'm fcuked!

I paid £150 to change the cambelt on my golf a few months ago.

£265 was his quote -- good stuff

Id not pay more than the price of the parts but id do it myself lol

I will never pay someone to do something that I know I can do myself.

Back to the point that price is very high.
