Ive been on the hunt for a reasonable Mk3 GTI to do a odd trackday in on a budget, was going to use my red GTI but I don't trust my own or anyone else's driving.

First candidate I bought:



One of the most rusty mk3s ive every seen....

Next candidate no MOT or Tax or even Log book:



Was modified and i started to fix it up. Then found out it had a bent steering rack and i had already sold the one off the car above so could not be bothered to buy one.

Final candidate.



Has tax & Mot and is even 3dr

Plans are to use parts off my breaker to modify it and tidy her up.

Already have

Audi wheels
EBC red stuff pads
Part worn Toyo tires
Eibach springs

And if it blows up, I already have two spare engines

Yeah i'm always talking to Alan, he thinks i'm crazy but hes a top bloke. Hes keeps letting me use the pit at the MOT place

are you makin it road legal to drive to the track or trailering it ?

im seriously thinkibng of building a mk3 track car my self but id have to make it road legal to drive it there and back, but i dont no how the insurance would work as id only prob use it twice a month at the most,

Yes its road legal but its being trailed as I will no doubt stove it into the barrier lol.

I need to update this as its coming on nicely and the trackday is booked.

You will have to post the date of the track day mate and i might pop along .

Date is 29th January at Oulton Park (hopefully its not snowy).

I will be using a on board camera so it will catch me blowing it up or crashing.....

Started off by replacing the boot with a non rusty one, then de-wipered it and removed third brake light.


Ive also changed the N/S door and bonnet with tidier ones.

How its sitting now, thanks to T1M for the headlights (please excuse how filthy it is).




Also fitted the harnesses I picked up off Oli and partly stripped of the inside. Not going nuts due to the fact that I want to put it back together when Ive finished.




Things to do:

Change engine oil.
Check gearbox oil.
Fix exhaust heat shields.
Fix the rough running engine (started doing this today).

Donnington park 18th March

Sunroof has now been removed and plated.
Alot more weight has been removed.
Front windows are to be polycarbonate and all electric windows removed.
Trying to get hold of a decat for it for cheapness.

Donnington is costing about £200 for the pair of us. I would never take a car to a trackday i care about, when we was at oulton park there was a few crashes and two people ended up in hospital.

Good luck trying to find a polo 16v with a working gearbox.
