ok so my mums bought a brand new fiat 500, its being made to order nd will arrive at the end of april
she currently has a private plate on her seat ibiza, which is being PX'd when she gets the 500.
Is there a way she can change the private plate onto the 500 on the day of purchase, as she doesnt want the 11 plate on the 500, just the private plate.

helpp!!

when she said can you change my number plate over
and he said "yes you can do that, you need xxx form"
looks like i'd better give them a quick call and a kick up the bum

Best way to do it...

Pop along to DVLA and have the plate put on retension now so its all done and dusted before she gets the car. £80

Then the day she picks the car up pop back to DVLA and transfer the plate to the new car, they will do it there and then this time and it won't cost a penny as its part of the previous £80.

DVLA manchester is the best one...

She doesnt want old plates on her ibiza, she wants her private plate on her fiat 500 on the day it arrives,
she wants the private plate taken from the ibiza, on the date of Fiat 500 delivery and the plate to go onto the 500 on that same day

you cant do that the only way that happens is if you buy a new motor and you pick the reg for example when terry tunstall had his silver polo from new he brought the car with the reg tt08tez on already but when he brought his new polo gti he had to wait a week for the paperwork to go through and the new reg to go on his car all i can suggest tori is do what jon says go to the dvla direct of badger the dealers and get them pay for it

tell her to suck it up... :P

I don't think there is any way around it..

as the Ibiza will have to be regisitered with the private plate if she won't have an old one when it is PartX and two cars cannot hold the same reg mark... then she will have to wait 2-5 weeks for DVLA to asign the private plate over to the new car so she either drives around with the normal plates until this time or parks it in a garage so no one can see it...

When I did it with the Caddy they told me that you should allow 2-5 weeks for transfer and re-asignment of the plates.

its a pain but why she so against having old plates?

If the private plate is on retention and not assingned to car then the the dealer can sort it out as the first reg.....its easy for them as they get a ist of new numbers every month from the DVLA for new car sales...you pick the number they sort it. You got a private plate ready then its the same process....sounds like the dealer is pulling a fast one as that means they havent registered a new car sale cos of the reg.

If its on another car you will have to remove it and put it on retention. You wont be able to transfer it all on the same day.
Send the paper work off to say what car the new plate is going....wait 2-5 days before you get your cerificate.....get the plates made up if needed....send of the decleration to the DVLA for transfer.....wait upto 4 weeks for the new V5 to arrive.

Its a pain in the ass but keep on at the dealer.
